Why Your Pet Needs Dental Care

Pet dentistry is newer to Sri Lanka — but the need has never been greater. Here's why oral health matters more than most pet owners realise.

Modern Diets Harm Teeth

Processed pet food, sugary treats, and human table scraps leave pets far more vulnerable to plaque, tartar, and decay than ever before — much like the effect of modern diets on human teeth.

Pets Silently Suffer

Dogs and cats instinctively hide pain — it's a survival instinct. Your pet cannot tell you their tooth hurts. By the time you notice a change in behaviour, dental disease may already be advanced and deeply uncomfortable.

It's More Than Just Teeth

Untreated dental disease doesn't stay in the mouth. Bacteria from infected gums can enter the bloodstream and cause serious damage to the heart, kidneys, and liver. Good oral health is whole-body health.

Catch Problems Early

Most dental problems are invisible to the naked eye and develop slowly without obvious signs. Regular professional dental checks catch issues early — before they become painful, complex, and costly to treat.

Our Services

Comprehensive dental services to keep your pet's teeth and gums healthy at every stage of life.

Dental Consultations

Thorough oral examinations to assess your pet's dental health, identify issues early and recommend the most appropriate course of treatment.

How do I know if my pet needs a dental consultation?

Bad breath, difficulty eating, red or swollen gums, excessive drooling or pawing at the mouth are common signs that your pet may need a dental check-up.

What happens during a dental consultation?

Our veterinary dentist will perform a full oral examination, check for plaque, tartar, gum disease and tooth decay, and advise on the best treatment plan for your pet.

Book Appointment

Professional Teeth Cleaning

Professional dental scaling to remove plaque and tartar buildup, keeping your pet's teeth clean and preventing serious dental disease.

How often should my pet have a professional teeth cleaning?

We recommend routine dental scaling every 1 to 3 years depending on your pet's breed, age and dental health. Our vets will advise a schedule tailored to your pet's needs.

Is teeth cleaning safe for my pet?

Professional dental cleaning is performed under general anaesthesia to ensure your pet is comfortable and still. Our team monitors your pet closely throughout the entire procedure.

Book Appointment

Dental Surgery & Extractions

Safe and precise dental surgical procedures including tooth extractions, performed by our experienced veterinary surgeons to relieve pain and restore oral health.

When does my pet need a tooth extraction?

Extractions are recommended when a tooth is severely decayed, fractured, loose or causing significant pain that cannot be resolved with other treatments.

How long does recovery take after dental surgery?

Most pets recover within a few days. We will provide detailed post-operative care instructions and schedule a follow-up visit to ensure your pet is healing well.

Dental X-Rays & Diagnostics

Advanced dental imaging to detect hidden problems beneath the gumline such as root infections, bone loss and unerupted teeth that are not visible to the naked eye.

Why does my pet need dental X-rays?

Up to 60% of a tooth's structure lies below the gumline. Dental X-rays allow our vets to identify infections, fractures and bone loss that would otherwise go undetected.

Are dental X-rays safe for my pet?

Yes. The level of radiation used in veterinary dental X-rays is very low. The procedure is performed under sedation to ensure your pet is comfortable and the images are accurate.

Book Appointment

Periodontal Disease Treatment

Specialist treatment for gum disease including deep cleaning, antibiotic therapy and ongoing management to protect your pet's teeth and overall health.

What are the signs of periodontal disease in pets?

Red, swollen or bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, difficulty eating and excessive drooling are common signs. Periodontal disease is the most common dental condition in pets.

Can periodontal disease affect my pet's overall health?

Yes. Untreated gum disease can lead to bacteria entering the bloodstream and affecting the heart, kidneys and liver. Early treatment is essential for your pet's long-term health.

Book Appointment

Oral Health Check-Ups

Routine oral health assessments as part of your pet's annual check-up to catch dental issues early and keep your pet's mouth healthy for life.

How young should I start dental care for my pet?

Dental care should begin as early as possible. We recommend introducing tooth brushing and oral check-ups from a young age to establish good habits and prevent problems later.

Can I brush my pet's teeth at home?

Yes, daily brushing with a pet-safe toothbrush and toothpaste is the best way to maintain your pet's dental health between professional cleanings. Our team can show you how.
